唾液酸隸屬於酸性糖中的一個家族,大量而廣泛的表現在所有脊索動物和部份的細菌。我們實驗室的主要研究目標分為兩方面:
目前我們的研究聚焦在唾液酸結合蛋白家族(Siglecs) ,這類蛋白大多表現在免疫系統。最近我們發現部份Siglecs 的DNA序列多樣性,會影響人類疾病與臨床病徵。現在我們正設法更進一步探究 Siglecs的分子與生理功能,並找出其基因序列多樣性和人類疾病的關聯性。遠程目標是希望應用我們的研究成果。轉而發展出唾液酸相關的疾病診斷與臨床治療方法。
