Now more than ever, de novo protein design has led to an explosion of new protein structures, functions and assemblies. As the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic leads to global health crisis, scientists at the Institute for Protein Design, University of Washington commit to take up the greatest challenge to stop it. In responding to COVID-19, IPD researchers utilize ground-breaking technologies to design proteins for antiviral drugs, vaccine, and rapid diagnostics – de novo minibinders enable pM binding to spike protein for SARS-CoV2 virus neutralization in vivo; homogeneous display of RBDs on two-component nanoparticles provides potent vaccine candidates; and de novo protein biosensors open an avenue for fast diagnostic at the point-of-care.-葉先偉博士
