Introduction

The Bio-Imaging & Cell Biology Facilities is located at Room 406, Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica. The facilities are to provide IBC investigators with the design of imaging experiments, choice of training on suitable imaging systems, and subsequent image processing, visualization and analysis.

The facilities provide advanced imaging systems including: fluorescence microscope; laser-scanning confocal microscopes; high-content screening station; flow cytometers; bioluminescence and chemiluminescence imager.

1 Zeiss LSM 510 1

1. Zeiss LSM 510 Inverted Confocal Microscope

The Zeiss LSM 510 Inverted Confocal Microscope is equipped with a 405 diode, Argon laser (458, 488, 514), 543 and 633 lasers, a motorized x-y scanning stage. Suitable applications include colocalization studies, immunofluorescence, FRAP and time courses.

2. Zeiss LSM 780 Upright Confocal Microscope

The Zeiss LSM 780 Upright Confocal Microscope is equipped with a 405 diode, Argon laser (458, 488, 514), 561 and 633 lasers, a motorized x-y scanning stage, with 32 channel ultra sensitive GaAsP detectors that allow visualization of weak fluorescent signals with lower photobleaching and phototoxicity. Suitable for colocalization studies, immunofluorescence, FRET.

3. Leica SP5 X Inverted Confocal Microscope

The Leica SP5 X Confocal Microscope is equipped with several laser lines, including a 405 diode and white light laser (470-670nm), a motorized x-y scanning stage, z-galvo stage. Suitable applications include live cell imaging studies, FRAP, FRET, time courses, colocalization and spectral unmixing.

The Leica DMI6000 B inverted microscope is an automated live cell imaging system. The system is suitable for fluorescence, live cell, time-lapse imaging, high-speed multi-fluorescence optical sectioning, and micromanipulation.

5. Olympus scan^R high-content screen station

The Scan^R screening platform can be used for assay development and high-content screening using multiwell plates as well as single slides. This makes it possible to screen both large and small numbers of samples.

6. BD FACSCalibur Flow Cytometer (BD FACSCalibur)

FACSCalibur is equipped with two lasers provide excitation at 488 and 633nm for analysis in four fluorescence channels plus forward and side scatter. This analyzer is capable of providing immunophenotyping, absolute counting, residual white blood cell enumeration, stem cell analysis, DNA analysis.

7 LAS 4000 1

7. Fujifilm Luminescent Image Analyzer LAS4000

The LAS 4000 is a multipurpose CCD camera system for sensitive and quantitative imaging of membranes, gels, small animals, colony counting, etc. It is equipped with standard trans-illumination white light and UV as well as epi-illumination white light, red, green and blue fluorescence.
