Dr. Huangs research interest is to use zebrafish as a model organism to study JAK/STAT signal transduction pathway in fish as well as to establish disease model for drug screen. Loss-of-function was performed by using morpholino oligonucleotides to knockdown gene expression during development, while gain-of-function was performed by overexpression of selected gene under the control of tissue-specific promoter in zebrafish embryos. In addition, different transgenic zebrafish line with GFP expression in specific organ or tissue was generated for the study of functional genomics. At present, we are working in several topics including:

1.JAK/STAT signal transduction pathway in fish;

2.Enhancement and inhibition of neurite outgrowth during zebrafish development;

3.Establishment of neurodegenerative disease model in zebrafish, such as spinal cord injury and Parkinson disease;

4.Expression and characterization of p53 family proteins during zebrafish development.
